Getting Involved

How can I help make this happen?

  • Create home and community environments that support reading
  • Enhance access to community-based programs that help children & families read

What resources are available to me?
The campaign has engaged over 50 community organizations in a year-long drive to launch new programs in Akron including:

  • A Reading Hotline sponsored by the Akron-Summit County Library at 330.643.9050 to provide information on community-based programs to help children and families read
  • Literacy Resources provided by the Akron-Summit County Public Library
  • A Children’s Reading List program that will provide student-designed bookmarks for completion of each list, free books, a chance to win prizes, and a special recognition event at the end of the year,

  • The Family Reading Network offering workshops throughout the community to empower parents and families to establish their home as the primary learning environment
  • Reading Corners throughout the community
  • Guiding principles for all community reading tutoring programs
  • A Community-wide Adult Reading List program
